Bill Evans
(b. 8/16/29 - Plainfield, NJ    d. 9/15/80 - New York, NY)

Title: Everybody Digs Bill Evans
Personnel: Bill Evans (piano), Sam Jones (bass), Philly Joe Jones (drums).
Recorded: 1958
Label: Riverside/Prestige
Comments: Classically trained at an early stage, Bill Evans would come to prominence in the jazz world with these recordings. In addition, his contributions to Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" album, one year after this one, are inimitable.
Title: Portrait In Jazz
Personnel: Bill Evans (piano), Scott LaFaro (bass), Paul Motian (drums).
Recorded: 1959
Label: Riverside/Prestige
Comments: This CD was notable for the arrival of a new trio on the jazz scene. In particular, Scott LaFaro, on bass, would usher in a whole new vocabulary on the instrument with his phrasing. By breaking up the traditional bass line, which consists mainly of quarter notes, LaFaro used syncopation to develop an entirely new way of playing time. Although he died a few years after this recording, his playing still influences many bass players on the scene.

Title: Stan Getz & Bill Evans
Personnel: Bill Evans (piano), Stan Getz (tenor sax), Ron Carter, Richard Davis (bass), Elvin Jones (drums).
Recorded: 1964
Label: Verve
Comments: This recording is unique in that it is the only recording where Bill Evans recorded with Elvin Jones. A must have CD in the collection of any Bill Evans fan!
